The philosophy

Ranch living deserves the same intention as any home.

A ranch property carries its own kind of history — the land, the light, the way life moves through it. Deborah brings her signature approach of layering antiques, architecturals, and gathered objects to spaces that feel rooted in place and built to last.

Whether it's a primary residence on a working ranch, a weekend retreat, or a hospitality property, every project begins with the same question: how does life move through this space?

"Ranch work asks you to slow down and really look at how a family lives outdoors — that's where the best ideas come from."— Deborah Kirk

Trophy lodge great room at Big Wells Ranch

South Texas Brush Country

Big Wells Ranch

A working hunting ranch built around a namesake heart-shaped lake, where the brief called for interiors that could stand up to boots, dogs, and long days outdoors without losing an ounce of warmth. In the main house, dark cabinetry, hand-glazed tile, and leather counter stools keep the open kitchen clubby and lived-in.

Just steps away, a reclaimed-wood lodge houses a curated wall of sporting trophies and hides — cowhide, zebra, and antique textiles layered against timber-beamed ceilings for a room built for gathering after the hunt.

Texas Hill Country

Indianhead Ranch

A limestone hacienda set high above the surrounding hill country, its barrel-tile roofline and courtyards angled to catch the sunset. Inside, vaulted pine ceilings, iron chandeliers, and a wall of mounted game anchor the great room, while walls of glass fold open to a covered dining terrace built for entertaining.

The primary suite pairs reclaimed-wood furniture with an antique rug and rotating art, and the same warm, collected sensibility carries out to the property's barn, casitas, and pool breezeway.

About Deborah

Designed for the land.

With over 20 years in practice, Deborah Kirk has designed spaces across every scale and setting — but ranch work holds a special place.

Ranch projects demand something different — a sensitivity to scale, to materials that weather well, to interiors that feel rooted in the landscape rather than placed on top of it.

Every ranch project comes with its own personality. Sometimes that includes a four-legged client who insists on being part of the process.

What stays consistent is Deborah's approach — spaces that feel rooted, materials that belong, and interiors that look like they were always meant to be there.
